Introducing Our Practice Team
Everyone at our practice is committed to providing you with the very best in pet healthcare. Our veterinary team bring a wealth of experience to the practice and have individually obtained high standards of professional qualification.
James was born and brought up in Bushmills in Northern Ireland and graduated from Veterinary College in London in 1992. He came to Lancaster in 1996 and ran the small animal section of another local practice before opening Lancaster Vets in December 1999.
Almost twenty years on he loves the fact that as a small practice we have great friendships with many of our clients and their pets.
James is married to Debbie, our Practice Manager and they have two children Amy and John and a Golden Retriever called Dash.
Helen qualified from Royal Veterinary College in London in 2001. She enjoys the challenge of general practice and the variety of cases seen in a busy practice.
Helen is married to Ben, who is also a vet and between them they have managed to only collect 2 cats, 2 tortoises, 7 chickens and 7 frogs along the way... Oh and 2 children!
Outside of work Helen loves cooking, baking and being outdoors spending time with her family and friends.
Ben is married to our vet Helen and he works with a specialised veterinary company called Veterinary Support Services which provides highly experienced ultrasound, endoscopy and cardiology support to local practices.
Ben can often be found working in the prep room at Lancaster Vets with his high tech ultrasound scanner to give us amazing pictures of pets' insides and help plan their treatment.
Sam qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1992 and joining Lancaster Vets in 2006.She has spent all of her career in small animal practice, working as a Head Nurse and as an assessor/clinical coach for numerous student Veterinary Nurses. In 2011 Sam completed her AMTRA exam to become a Suitably Qualified Person in drug dispensing. She has a special interest in animal behaviour and is currently just completing an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management.
Sam lives with her partner, Phil, Border Collie Jazmine and adopted cat, Stumpee.
Clare started working in practice in 1999 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2004. Since then she has worked in a variety of private and charity practices, working as a Head Nurse and as an assessor and clinical coach for student Veterinary Nurses. She came to Lancaster Vets in 2012.
She qualified as an AMTRA Suitably Qualified Person in drug dispensing.in 2009 and completed the Vets Now Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care in 2014. She is currently studying for the Diploma in Feline Nursing.
Clare has been working specifically to promote the practice as a Cat Friendly practice (we are accredited under the International Cat Care Scheme) and has a keen interest in all aspects of cat care and behaviour.
She lives locally with her husband Paul, her son Rory, 2 dogs, and a cat. Clare is currently on maternity leave.
Katherine completed a Level 3 diploma in Animal Management in 2013 then started studying Veterinary Nursing at Myerscough College. While studying at College and University Katherine also worked part time in a boarding kennels. Katherine qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2016 having completed the majority of her in practice training here at Lancaster Veterinary Centre. She then went on to work at the Animal Trust in Bolton where she developed her skills in many areas of nursing, developing a keen interest in medical nursing which she hopes to study further in the future.
Katherine made the decision to come back and re-join the team at Lancaster Veterinary Centre in March 2017 and we were delighted to welcome her back! She has 2 cats, Klaus and Cami, Lilly the rabbit and a leopard gecko named Rio.
Amy joined Lancaster Vets as an Animal Nursing Assistant in 2015 after five years working at a local kennels.
She studied at Myerscough College and has a National Diploma in Animal Care and a BSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare.
Amy lives locally with her husband Adam and their two cats Poppy and Dolly.
Karen joined Lancaster Vets in October 2005 after moving from Wakefield where she worked as a Financial Administrator. She says the advert for a receptionist had jumped out of the page at her. Karen was an optician's receptionist for thirteen years and loved dealing with people in this role.
She qualified as a Suitably Qualified Person in drug dispensing in July 2012.
Karen lives with her husband Bob and has a grown up son, Richard, who hopes to take the financial world by storm!
Katy joined Lancaster Vets in October 2014 having worked as a carer and personal assistant in and around Lancaster. She initially came on a temporary contract but was hugely excited when it became permanent.
Unfortunately she doesn't currently have any pets but is regularly being convinced to change that by all our clients!
Katy came to Lancaster in September 2010 to study at the University of Cumbria. She never left and now lives locally with her husband Alex.
Debbie is originally from the West Midlands. She and James met and married in London when they were both at University. She has a degree in accounts and a diploma in personnel management and previously worked in human resources for the NHS.
Debbie and James live in the centre of Lancaster and when not working away in the office at Lancaster Vets she can be found running the family home, keeping up with two very tall teenagers and walking Dash, their Golden Retriever.
